This makes sense: makeup wipe are suitable, and they appear effective. Baby wipes are made for Exotic infants, so they look gentle. Effective + tender = joyful skin, right...? Not that time. I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but makeup wipes aren't your friend. They're fine for occasional use (camping, travel, sickness, etc) however if you are using a makeup wipe, baby wash, or water wipe as your principal mechanism for eliminating your cosmetics or cleansing your face, you are doing long-term harm to your face. You are also not doing the environment any favors--that's a lot of unnecessary waste! You will find environmentally friendly alternatives available which are equally as easy and considerably more friendly to your face.

Yesterday on instagram I shared that a meme from one of my favourite skincare pros, Caroline Hirons, beseeching everyone to stop using makeup wipes, and you all were not having it. And I found that an alarming number of you sweet baby angels are using baby wipes to remove your cosmetics.

1. Makeup wipes destroy your acid mantle, and it is a delicate and important layer on the surface of your skin that keeps moisture in and junk out. Your acid mantle is how your skin protects itself from germs, bacteria, and other nasty things that want in. Your acid mantle deserves protection and love.

   The texture of 99.9percent of cosmetics wipes is unpleasant enough to be regarded as a mechanical exfoliant. Many people use some sort of moisturizing product in their skincare regimen, so for most people that this is just a little bit too much to the skin to handle. Over exfoliating will destroy your acid mantle.
   Most of the men and women who responded to my story about makeup wipes expressed dismay since they use makeup wipes to eliminate their mascara, and ya'll, you do NOT want to exfoliate your delicate eye tissue. Reusable Cotton Pads may cause micro-tears on your skin that may advance the aging process (this is also why skin experts don't need you to use harsh facial scrubs such as St. Ives Apricot Scrub--hands and feet only!) So using them onto your delicate eye tissue is essentially enticing fine lines and wrinkles to join the party much earlier than they'd otherwise.
   Baby wipes are not formulated to keep pores clean or break down waxes or oils (cosmetics ), they're formulated to eliminate organic material from the surface of the skin. Employing a baby wipe to clean your face means you are leaving a great deal of cosmetics and environmental debris behind.
   Makeup wipes aren't formulated to actually wash your skin. They're formulated to break down cosmetics. Your face may look makeup free when you're done, but these wipes do not actually cleanse skin and have a tendency to leave behind a residue which isn't doing skin any favors. They just suck.
